The tilt-up construction technique is extremely popular in North America, New Zealand, and Australia, and gained its popularity in the US construction boom following World War II. This construction technique is generally credited to American construction companies and architects circa 1900. Tilt-up construction can be very economical and a quick building process. The general tilt-up construction process consists of: casting concrete slabs (usually at the jobsite) with rigid steel, and rebar frameworks inserted into the panels; pouring concrete into slabs on a casting surface; curing the concrete components; and, inserting embedment plates, bolts, frameworks, steel corners, joints, and other fixtures are embedded into the concrete slabs. Once the slabs are cured, a crane is used to hoist the concrete panels/slabs into place (previously, the lower tech process involved tilt-tables instead of cranes). Bracing is used to keep the walls stable until the roof framework is assembled to the outer walls and other load-bearing walls in the building. All of the fixtures, walls, roof, and other support structures are attached, and these buildings (frequently warehouses, small office building, retail stores, etc.) can be completed in a very short period of time.
